Membership - Federation of Associations in Behavioral and Brain Sciences

The SPA Board of Trustees has arranged for SPA to become a member society of the Federation of Associations in Behavioral and Brain Sciences. The Federation is a national coalition representing the interests of scientists who conduct research in the mind, brain, and behavior sciences, focusing its efforts on advocacy, education, and the communication of information to scientists.

Much of the work of the Federation involves advocating to policy makers such as federal granting agencies and members of Congress, as well as the general public, to ensure that adequate research funding is directed to psychological research, to encourage legislation that supports our research and training, and to advocate for the responsible use of psychological science in public policy. We want to be sure that Personality Assessment has a place at this table.

SPA will be represented on the Federation, joining forces with leaders of many other organizations such as the American Psychological Association, the Society for Personality and Social Psychology, the National Academy of Neuropsychology, the Psychometric Society, the Psychonomic Society, the American Educational Research Association, and the Society for Research in Psychopathology, among many others. The Federation also includes universities, scientific publishers, and APA divisions among its affiliates.

In addition to increasing our visibility and amplifying our voice in the research and funding world by uniting with organizations with similar scientific interests, our decision to join the Federation comes with some benefits for individual SPA members. These include:
