Welcome!
The SPA Foundation Board is working on behalf of all assessment psychologists to support research on the practical utility of clinical assessment practice. Despite all the evidence that is regularly published supporting the validity of personality test scales, including in the pages of our Journal, there are virtually no data available on the applied value of what we do in clinical practice.
To close this gap, the SPA Foundation is funding a two-year study to evaluate the value of thorough, individualized clinical personality assessments on clients, their therapists, and other third parties. After planning for several years and initiating initial fundraising, the grant was widely advertised and research proposals were solicited. From a very competitive pool of submissions, the SPA Foundation decided to fund a project by Mark A. Blais, Psy.D. and Caleb J. Siefert, Ph.D. from Massachusetts General Hospital. Their project focuses on the incremental value of personality assessment for improving ongoing psychotherapies in which notable difficulties have arisen. It compares the effectiveness of assessment and feedback to a credible alternative intervention by randomly assigning patients to receive either a comprehensive personality assessment or a two-hour interview with a consulting psychotherapist. More details are provided in their abstract.
As illustrated in the graphic, we already have collected an impressive
$37,435.00 of the $40,000.00 needed to fund this important and unique
project. But we still are about $2,500 short to fund the second year of
the study. So we need your help! Please make a tax-deductible
contribution right now through our secure server.
Although $2,500 is a sizeable amount of money, if just 25 SPA membrs
contributed $100.00 each our goal would be met! In other words, if 25
members contributed less than 1-hour of clinical income, we would be
able to ensure a second year of funding for this vital project -- one
that uniquely evaluates the merits of what we do in our daily clinical
assessment work with patients.
Please make your donation online right now through our secure server. If you prefer, you can pay by check or make donations in smaller installments. Just download a pledge card and mail it to the SPA Office. Thank you in advance for supporting this important and critical project!
