Professional Bio
Imani Byrd is a third-year doctoral student in the Clinical Psychology PhD program at the University of Detroit Mercy in Detroit, MI. Her clinical experience spans community mental health, correctional, and trauma-focused settings primarily to marginalized communities. Specializing in trauma-informed care, she is skilled in treating complex mental health conditions primarily using dialectical behavior therapy and cognitive-behavioral interventions. She is especially interested in how personality assessment and trauma intersect. Her work reflects a commitment to understanding how personality dynamics and trauma experiences shape individuals’ interpretation, coping, and adaptation. As a first time attendee of SPA, she is excited to learn and interact with like-minded clinicians and researchers. In addition, as a Black cisgender woman in psychology, she aims to be culturally responsive and have respective humility while in working clinical practice. Beyond individual treatment, she is also dedicated to expanding access to mental health care in historically underserved communities.
