Category: Grand Rounds

Our Grand Rounds seeks to provide psychologists with a practical guide for conducting multimethod assessments of psychotic dimensions and disorders. Beginning with a brief review of the nature of psychosis, we turn to an evidence-based eight-factor dimensional model developed by the DSM-5 committee on schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorders. We review key assessment methods, including clinical interviews, personality inventories (MMPI-3 and PAI-Plus), rating scales, cognitive measures, and the Rorschach. Additionally, we include information about cultural issues, distinguishing delusions from conspiracy theories, and assessing the risk for violence and suicide in psychosis.

Presenters: Dr. Ali Khadivi & Dr. Jim Kleiger

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe three ways to define psychosis.
  • Explain the eight-factor dimensional model for assessing psychosis signs and symptoms.
  • Describe which clinical signs and symptoms are best assessed by clinical interview.
  • Explain the advantage of using the Rorschach in assessing psychosis.
  • List three factors that increase the risk of violence or suicide in psychosis.
