Measurement of the HiTOP - Current Status, Dissemination, and Diversity Effort
SPA E-Learning Center | 2024 SPA Convention
Abstract
The Hierarchical Taxonomy of Psychopathology (HiTOP) consortium has published an alternative, evidence-based, and dimensional classification for psychopathology that focuses on the empirical structure of psychopathology rather than consensus judgements of psychiatric experts (Kotov et al., 2017). The Measures Development Workgroup also has been active in building measures to assess the model, and these measures hold promise for (a) dissemination of the HiTOP model to research and clinical settings, and (b) providing a means of testing and refining the HiTOP model itself. In this symposium, we present three talks related to the HiTOP self-report (HiTOP-SR) and leave ample time for discussion regarding future directions. In the first talk, Simms will describe the HiTOP-SR questionnaire and its develop, with a particular emphasis on current project that are planned and/or underway to disseminate the measure and improve utility. Second, Ruggero will describe the efforts underway to translate the measure into other languages around the world, with a particular emphasis on the Spanash-language translation project that he is leading. Third, Markon will describe the structure of the HiTOP-SR scales. Finally, Wu will describe the extent to which this structure is robust across diverse groups of people. We will finish the session with a Q&A discussion period, facilitated by Simms, geared toward getting feedback from the audience.
