Professional Bio
Prathma strongly believes in the emancipatory power of research and she hopes that her research work will not only inform her clinical practice but also be helpful to other trainee clinicians of color who share similar experiences and interests. In her graduate training, her research projects have endeavored to integrate concerns of communities of color. Some of her proposed qualitative research projects include – i) exploring the experiences of people of color of using a university library and their sense of belonging on the campus through photovoice and ethnographic methods; ii) a project that highlights the unmet needs of clients and clinicians of color in the field of psychological assessment(by focusing on their experiences of using projective tools like the Thematic Apperception Test) and the necessity to develop multiculturally sensitive practices for these tools; and iii) a pilot project that used person-centered interviewing to explore experiences of immigrant grandparents and how they navigate the culturally foreign public and private spaces around them.
