AI and Assessment Instruction: Competency, Contradiction, and Bias
The proliferation of Al in psychological assessment and report writing shows no signs of abating. This session will review the current state of Al in the assessment industry, in particular hypothesis generation, case analysis and report writing. Several ethical considerations remain largely unexplored at the intersection of assessment, Al and graduate instruction. A key question is how Al is used in the education of assessing psychologists. In other words, how do we teach students to write assessment reports in the advent of Al?
What crucial role does Al play in clinical judgement, case analysis, hypothesis generation and report structuring. How do we say that Al is good as an assessment practitioner but not desirable in the instruction of crafting reports? There is a seeming contradiction of prohibiting the Al in graduate school versus the free use of Al post graduate school. We will explore what Al provides and what elements it does not address in terms of instruction, particularly in contrast to how Al is understood and marketed. Several issues of bias and culture present challenges in terms of Al in graduate schools, including how bias continues to be embedded inAl and how rules on Al are applied across cultures in graduate students. We will address the ethical concerns around how we judge competence in graduate school report writing. This session will provide actionable ways to address these ethical concerns and such steps shall include thoughtful policies that are equitably applied.
