Ethical Considerations in Psychological Assessment
Conducting psychological assessment is associated with a myriad of ethical considerations that assessment clinicians must be mindful of to ensure that the highest standards of practice are employed and to mitigate risk. This presentation will address new and emerging understandings of specific ethical considerations in psychological assessment as well as foundational, essential ones. Topics will include the increasing role of technology in psychological assessment, culturally responsive assessment, test security/data sharing, new versions of tests, competence and supervision. The focus will be on practical applications that participants can immediately use in their clinical work and resources for further consideration will be provided.

Catherine L. Grus earned her PhD in clinical psychology from Nova University. She completed her doctoral internship at the University of Miami School of Medicine and postdoctoral fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. She is the Chief Psychologist Officer at the National Register for Health Service Psychologists where she serves as the Register’s primary strategist and spokesperson on professional practice issues. Prior to joining the National Register, she worked at the American Psychological Association for almost twenty years and served as Chief Education Officer for the last five years. Before that Grus was a clinical assistant professor at the University of Miami School of Medicine providing direct clinical care and responsible for the department’s APA accredited internship program.
