The CatholicU Suicide Prevention Lab has studied the assessment of suicidal risk for over 30 years. Much of this work has focused on the develop and use of the Suicide Status Form (SSF) which is a multipurpose assessment, treatment planning, tracking, to clinical outcome tool that is central to an evidence-based suicide-focused treatment called the "Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality" (CAMS). The SSF has excellent validity and reliabilty as studied across different psychometric investigations with different sample populations. As part of CAMS, there is evidence that the collaborative SSF engagement provides a "therapeutic assessment" experience for patients. There is also evidence of invariance across gender and diverse populations. Within CAMS assessment information is used to inform a treatment plan focused on patient-identified "drivers" of what makes them suicidal. Finally, beyond quantitative considerations we will also consider qualitative aspects of the SSF experience for patients who are suicidal.
