Culture in Assessment from a Client's Perspective-Understanding Client Experiences with the WCSCI
SPA E-Learning Center | 2024 SPA Convention
Abstract
Although multicultural counseling competencies and social justice are becoming an emerging cornerstone of psychological assessment, there are few structured clinical tools to assess a client’s cultural context and lived experiences with privilege and oppression. The Wright-Constantine Structured Cultural Interview (WCSCI) was developed to help clinicians evaluate and understand the cultural identities of their clients, with clinicians reporting its utility in case conceptualization and alliance building with their clients. This symposium discusses the WCSCI and implications from a qualitative study that interviewed clients about their perspectives on the WCSCI.
