Shaping the Future of Personality Assessment (1.5 CEs)
SPA E-Learning Center | 2024 SPA Convention
Abstract
Personality assessment, like psychology as a field, is not a static entity. Recent efforts to develop guidelines (Krishnamurthy et al, 2022; Wright et al., 2021) have been critical and important, but it is also essential that we continue to evolve with new developments and consider what lies ahead, paralleling a cultural humility versus competency model. The Education and Training Interest Group and SPAGS are excited to co-sponsor a roundtable discussion that focuses on recent progress and future directions that impact personality assessment. A. Jordan Wright, Ph.D., ABAP, ABPP will present and frame the roundtable with an overview of 5 trends (i.e., tele-assessment, new technology, widespread availability of test items and materials online, dimensional models of psychopathology, and master’s vs doctoral competencies) that will provide a framework for subsequent discussion, as attendees engage in an open discussion regarding how these trends will impact implementation and training in personality assessment. Abby Mulay, Ph. D. will moderate the discussion about implications for the future of clinical practice, training, and research. At the end, A. Jordan Wright, Ph. D., ABAP, ABPP, Jen Ying-Zhen Ang, MA, representative of SPAGS, and Jan Kamphuis, Ph. D., SPA president will serve as discussants. The goals of the roundtable will be for attendees to identify emerging trends in the field, how they currently impact their work, and what future directions we need to consider as we shape the future of personality assessment.
