Interest Group Survey
Previously the SPA Interest Group Board Liaison, Dr. Abby Mulay, invited you to complete the survey below regarding the SPA Interest Groups. We are seeking to gain more information about Interest Groups from the perspective of SPA members, so that we can continue to offer exciting opportunities for engagement with SPA. It does not matter if you are a current member of an Interest Group or a non-member, we value your input and would appreciate your participation! We ask that you complete the survey by Thursday, March 2, 2023.

Still debating the SPA Convention later this month? Consider participating by attending the convention virtually! The virtual ticket does give you access to all the Featured Lectures AND you can still earn continuing education credits. Register for either in-person or virtual before regular registration ends on March 24, 2023!

Saturday, March 4, 2023 is the LAST DAY we can guarantee the hotel room block rate at the Austin Marriott Downtown. If you are planning on attending the SPA Convention this month and have not reserved your room, now is the time to do so! This INCLUDES if you are a scholarship winner or presenter.

SPA Board Nominations
The SPA Board of Directors announced a call for nominations for President and two Representatives-at-Large yesterday. The Leadership Development Committee (LDC) prepared a Candidate Leadership Guide that provides general information about Board member roles, responsibilities, competencies and culture expectations. In addition, detailed job descriptions for the President and Representative-at-Large positions, including qualifications, duties, and estimated time commitments, along with the Candidate Leadership guide, are available on the Elections & Nominations webpage.
The election itself will run from August 7 to September 4, 2023, and the new Board members will be announced in early September. New Board members will participate in orientation and onboarding activities over the remaining months of 2023, and will assume their Board responsibilities on January 1, 2024.
Nominations are open from now through April 30, 2023!

- Draft Research Plan: The U.S.Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) posted a draft research plan on screening for intimate partner violence and abuse of older and vulnerable adults. The draft research plan is available for review and public comment until March 8, 2023. The APA office plans to review and submit comments and you are welcome to share them with us if you wish. If you would like to share your comments with our office, please email them to jmarzalik@apa.org by the end of the day Tuesday, March 7. Click here to view the draft.
- New Book: Psychological Assessment of Surgical Candidates by Ryan Marek and Andrew Block. This book presents evidence-based approaches to presurgical psychological assessments across a broad range of medical conditions. For more information, click here.
- New Articles: Ethnic Differences in Assessment: How Self-Report and Observation Converge and Diverge Among Ethnically Diverse Incarcerated Youths
- Call for Manuscripts: Annals of LGBTQ Public and Population Health is seeking articles from qualitative and/or quantitative research on healthcare delivery to LGBTQ populations. For more information, click here.
- Event: Join Dr. Luciano Gironmini at the Understanding R-PAS Scores and Profiles through the Lens of Nueroimaging and Psychophysiological Research seminar April 21-22. 2023 in Finland. For additional information, please click here.
- Event: Applications of Machine Learning for Measuring and Modeling Psychological Concepts Via Different Methods of Communication, May 16-18, 2023 at Sam Houston State University. 3-day summer training on applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning for measuring and modeling psychological concepts (see attached flyer). The target audience is Ph.D. students and postdoctoral scholars in psychology but we will also consider applications from established researchers.Learn more by clicking here.
